Toyota Issues Voluntary Recall

Toyota is issuing two voluntary recalls on roughly 235,000 Lexus and Toyota models in the United States.
The first recall pertains to about 133,000 Highlander Hybrid models from the 2006 to 2010 model year and Lexus RX 400h models from the 2006 to 2008 model year. Toyota says in a press release that “transistors within the hybrid system's inverter assembly can experience heat damage due to variations in characteristics of the transistors built in parallel circuits.” This could result in the illumination of dashboard warning lights, and that “the vehicle will enter ‘limp home mode.’"  In some cases, the vehicle will essentially stop running while it is being driven.
The second recall affects about 102,000 Lexus IS 350, IS 350C and GS 350 models from the 2006 to 2011 model year. Toyota says that “bolts used to secure the variable valve timing control device can become loose, causing the vehicle to stop while being driven.” One of the first symptoms of this problem is an abnormal noise after starting the vehicle.
CNN Money spoke with Toyota, and reports that there have been no known injuries or accidents related to either problem.
